"In the Know, with the SRO"
Corporal Moore would like to remind all parents the importance of wearing a safety belt, helmets, and adhering to the school zones. As a part of ongoing efforts to keep all students safe during arrival and dismissal, Station #6 in the car line will no longer be used. This adjustment has been made out of an abundance of caution to improve the flow of traffic and student safety. If your child requires assistance or a little extra time, please pull forward to Station #1. Staff members are ready to assist.
I will be present during these times to assist and ensure the process remains safe and efficient. We appreciate your cooperation and your commitment to keeping our students protected.
E-Bikes VS. E-Motos
E-Bikes have an electric motor of less than 750 watts, fully operational pedals, and a seat for the rider.
Rights and Duties: Per Florida State Statute 316.2065, individuals riding bicycles have the same rights and responsibilities as drivers of motor vehicles, except where specific bicycle regulations apply.
Helmet Requirements: Cyclists under the age of 16 are required to wear a properly fitted and secured helmet while riding.
The speed limit for the school zone in front of Williams Elementary is 15 MPH.
E-Motos without pedals are classified as motorcycles and NOT bicycles, which would require a license and motorcycle endorsement; therefore are not allowed on school property.
Seatbelt Violations:
$30 violation if an adult is not wearing a seat belt, and $60 if a child is not wearing one.
Bike Helmets:
$67.50 for any students that are not wearing helmets while riding a bike.
Speeding in a School Zone:
There are no warnings given for speeding through school zones, and some cases of excessive speeding, loss of license and impounding of vehicle could be a consequence. Please also remember that school zones are hands free zones and it is illegal to even hold your cell phone while driving through a school zone.
The speed limit for the school zone in front of Williams Elementary is 15 MPH. Any speed over 15 mph will result in the following fines without warning:
1mph-9mph over posted speed limit $50
10mph-14mph over posted speed limit- $200
14mph-19mph over posted speed limit- $300
20mph-29mph over posted speed limit- $350
